Lieutenant General (Retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa, chairman of the CPEC Authority, resigned as special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) on information and broadcasting amid allegations that his family businesses flourished in his tenure as a commander of the Pakistan Army.

Bajwa, however, said he would continue to work as chairman of the CPEC authority. He said he would talk to Prime Minister Imran Khan about his resignation.

Shortly before resigning, Bajwa rejected a news report detailing businesses and assets owned by him and his family members. He issued a detailed press release and then took to Twitter to clarify his position. He tweeted, “I strongly rebut the baseless allegations levelled against me and my family. Alhamdolillah another attempt to damage our reputation belied/exposed. I have and will always serve Pakistan with pride and dignity.”

The detailed press release Asim Bajwa issued in defence of himself and his family members is given below.
