Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Sunday that his party was ready to take on the incompetent government of Prime Minister Imran Khan even single handed.
Bilawal said in a tweet on the 42nd death anniversary of his grandfather and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto that the PPP would hold the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government accountable for the rising inflation, unemployment and the prevailing economic conditions in the country.
Referring to his party’s decision to get former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani named as leader of the opposition in the Senate instead of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominee Azam Nazeer Tarar, Bilawal said he did not ask and he would not ask his party senators and workers to vote for a lawyer who was defending people convicted in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case. He said he could make a compromise on political issues, but not on self-respect.
He said there were two ways of doing opposition in Pakistan. He said the first was the way the PPP had been doing opposition and the second was the way the Pakistan National Alliance (PNA) did the opposition in Pakistan. He said the PPP had been doing the opposition in a principled way. He said those who got Gilani disqualified a few years ago as the prime minister of Pakistan brought him back into the Senate with the help of their votes.
