A five-year-old boy has died and 10 others have gone missing after a boat they were in capsized in the Sutlej River at the point of Sujeke, Okara, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to rescue sources, 33 people have been rescued so far while the search for the 10 missing people continues.
The five-year-old boy, who died in the incident, was identified as Faizan, son of Musawir.
The search operation for the recovery of the missing people is going on with 12 boats of Rescue 1122 including five from Okara, two from Bahawalnagar, two from Pakpattan and three from the Pakistan Army.
The Okara deputy commissioner is supervising the search operation along with District Emergency Officer Zafar Iqbal.
Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued directions to speed up the rescue operation for the recovery of the people who went missing after the capsizing of the boat.
He has ordered the officers of the local administration to immediately reach the site of the incident and supervise the relief activities.
“Saving the missing people should be the priority,” Mohsin Naqvi said.
