Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday announced to dissolve assemblies on August 9 during a gathering of the parliamentarians at Prime Minister House, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Citing its sources, the channel reported that the PM gave the final date after holding the consultative meetings with different political leaders of the coalition government before the start of the dinner he hosted in honour of the parliamentarians.
The National Assembly will automatically stand dissolved on August 12 after completing its term with a caretaker set up to take the reins for 60 days.
However, if the assembly is dissolved before the completion of the constitutional term the election could be delayed for another months as the constitutional requirement in this case would be to hold elections in 90 days.
In a show of hospitality and camaraderie, PM Shehbaz hosted a lavish dinner in honour of the Members of the National Assembly and the Senate at the Prime Minister's House.
It was a farewell dinner before the incumbent government completes its term in office.
The menu for the grand dinner was thoughtfully curated, encompassing a variety of delightful dishes to cater to the MPs' diverse tastes. From traditional favourites like Chicken Manchurian, Chicken Karahi, Mutton Karahi, and Barbecue to mouthwatering Sweet dishes, the dining experience was nothing short of indulgence.
The dinner spread also featured quintessential Pakistani delicacies, including Desi chicken, beef biryani, mash dal, chicken shami kebab, and fish, ensuring a blend of regional flavours that resonate with the legislators.
As the Prime Minister welcomed the Members of Parliament, the ambience exuded warmth and camaraderie. He personally greeted each MP individually, fostering a sense of connection and camaraderie.
The dinner witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly. Notable Federal Ministers, including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, graced the event.
Moreover, the parliamentary leaders from various government coalition parties actively participated, engaging in discussions on the country's prevailing political landscape.
Before the dinner commenced, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held consultations with the parliamentary leaders, discussing critical matters related to the caretaker prime minister and dissolving the assembly.
