As per the report, Humane has officially unveiled its groundbreaking device, the AI Pin, designed for seamless interaction with large language models. Priced at $699, the wearable consists of a square device and a magnetic battery pack for attachment to clothing or surfaces. Scheduled to ship in early 2024, preorders begin on November 16th, accompanied by a $24 monthly subscription fee for Humane's services, including a phone number and T-Mobile data coverage.
Powered by a Snapdragon processor, the AI Pin employs voice control, gestures, a camera, and a built-in projector, weighing approximately 34 grams, with an additional 20 grams for the battery booster. Unlike always-listening devices, users manually activate the Pin, indicated by the "Trust Light" when data collection is in progress.

The device connects to AI models through Humane's proprietary software, AI Mic, with collaboration mentioned from Microsoft and OpenAI. While initially utilizing GPT-4, the core feature is ChatGPT access. Operating on the Cosmos system, the AI Pin aims to simplify technology interfaces, eliminating the need for home screens or multiple settings.
Focused on user-friendly interactions, the AI Pin facilitates voice-based messaging and calling, email inbox summarization, nutritional information retrieval through the camera, and real-time translation. The device positions itself as a wearable, language model-powered search engine, with plans to incorporate navigation and shopping capabilities. Developers are also expected to contribute by creating custom tools.

Humane views the AI Pin as the inaugural step in an evolving project, anticipating improvements as underlying models advance. The company aspires for the device to emulate the smartphone's trajectory, with hardware enhancements complemented by innovative applications of AI. While challenges lie ahead, Humane aims to lead the tech industry's exploration of new possibilities with artificial intelligence.
