United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative Philippa Candler on Sunday called on Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi and discussed with him matters related to the deportation of illegal foreigners living in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Both discussed increasing coordination and cooperation to ensure smooth deportation of these foreigners.
The chief minister informed the visitor that over 15,000 foreigners living illegally in Punjab had been repatriated so far.
He further said that in this regard the Punjab government was following the guidelines given by the federal government. “Our policy on the issue is clear,” he said, adding, “The provincial government has tried to ensure that each and single foreigner living illegally is sent back to his or her country.”
The CM said that in this regard, the Punjab government would continue to cooperate with the UNHCR.
Speaking on the occasion, Candler said that the regulation of the expatriation of these foreigners by the provincial government was a welcome step.
Punjab Minister for Information Amir Mir, additional IG, special secretary Punjab home department and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
