The future of James Cameron's Na'vi franchise is becoming clearer as ' Avatar.
The Way of Water ' continues to dominate the global box office (it is currently the fourth highest-grossing film of all time with $2.13 billion).
Cameron has already completed filming for ' Avatar 3' and parts of 'Avatar 4,' and 'The Way of Water' has performed well enough that 'Avatar 5' is likely to follow suit.
Avatar' producer Jon Landau revealed some new details in international media about the next three sequels. Cameron teased that 'Avatar 3' would feature a more antagonistic Na'vi race.
Interestingly, this leader has a Game Of Thrones connection as well as a Charlie Chaplin one.
The Ash People, according to Landau, are "an aggressive, volcanic race" of Na'vi led by Varang, played by 'Game of Thrones' alum and Charlie Chaplin 's granddaughter Oona Chaplin.
What will Earth look like in the world of 'Avatar'? Fans are aware that Earth is dying, which is why the Resources Development Administration (RDA) has arrived on Pandora to create a new sustainable planet for humans. In 'Avatar's' version of Earth, "there's overpopulation and a depletion of our natural resources that make life harder," Landau told
“There are good humans and there are bad humans,” Landau said. “It’s the same thing on the Na’vi side. Oftentimes, people don’t see themselves as bad. What is the root cause of how they evolve into what we perceive as bad? Maybe there are other factors there that we aren’t aware of.”
While Chaplin's casting has been known for some time, this is the first confirmation that she will play the Ash People's leader. Chaplin praised the 'Avatar' franchise in 2018, calling it "Trojan horse cinema" due to Cameron's use of big budget filmmaking. She says, “to explore things that he finds important…like our relationship with nature, our relationship with people, our relationship with ourselves and the spirit.”
'Avatar 4' will have a "big time jump," which will lead into 'Avatar 5' and its partial setting on Earth. 'Avatar 5' would visit Earth, “We go to it to open people’s eyes, open Neytiri’s eyes, to what exists on Earth.”
