Amid security threats and worsening law and order situation in the province, Balochistan’s caretaker government on Sunday imposed ban on public meeting and election rallies in the province, reported 24 News HD TV channel.

Caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai shared the news of security threats on a social medial platform X. He said as a result of these threats, the government imposed ban on all public gathering and rallies by the political parties and the candidates.

Achakzai urged the leaders of various political parties and the candidates to arrange their meetings in the fore walls of houses.

He said Balochistan government realised the importance of political gathering and rallies during general elections but keeping in view the serious security threats, the government decided that security of public lives was of utmost importance.

It is important to note that as the elections draw near, the law and order situation in Balochistan deteriorated, with a surge in terrorist incidents across many districts of the province.

More than two dozen attacks targeting Election Commission offices, election rallies, candidates, and their campaign offices have resulted in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to 28 others.

In a disturbing incident, the house of Mir Abdul Rauf Rind, a PPP candidate contesting from PB-27 Kech, became the target of a grenade attack in Turbat. The incident raises concerns about the safety and security of political candidates as the electoral atmosphere intensifies.

Among the recent incidents, two explosions occurred near the election offices of a local political party and JUI on the eastern bypass of Quetta, leaving three people injured.

The gate of the city police station in Nushki was targeted with a hand grenade attack, fortunately resulting in no injuries. Meanwhile, JUI-F and PML-N announced the cancellation of their planned election rallies in Sanjawi and Harnai.

Threat alert issued

Ahead of general elections on February 8, Deputy Commissioner Quetta issued threat alert for the leaders of all political leaders and the candidates contesting elections in various constituencies of the city.

In a letter issued to the candidates on Sunday, DC Quetta urged all the leaders to avoid attending public gatherings and rallies due to terror threats.
