Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stressed the need for joint efforts to promote sports, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.
“Sports is a means of unifying the nation. Private and public sectors should join hands to work for the development of sports,” he said in his address at Alhamra.
“We have a long way. We have to do a lot of hard work, ” he added,
He said cash prizes are being given to 480 players and officials today and the series of cash prizes will continue for the promotion of sports and encouraging the players.
He added cash prizes will be given next year too. The chief minister said the Punjab government has done what it could have been for the promotion of sports.
He heaped praise on Sports Advisor Wahab Riaz for working hard to promote sports.
“Wahab Riaz has worked very hard for the promotion of sports. He should also work hard in cricket. Whenever Wahab Riaz met, he brought some work for the promotion of sports.
"Wahab Riaz is very fond of sports and strives for the promotion of sports”
He rued: “Punjab's 6th position in National Games is very disappointing, though it was provided with all-out resources.”
He hoped: “Wahab Riaz’s efforts will bear fruit in the next National Games, he said, pointing out that Wahab Riaz, Secretary Raja Jahangir and their team have prepared a sports calendar for the next three years for bringing in betterment.
