Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala has said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is like an unbridled horse, adding there is a need to control it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.
Speaking in the Senate, he said he had dared NAB chairman to take him to the court in fake bank accounts case, adding he had conveyed to him he would accept whatever verdict the court pronounced in his case.
He added whatever questions NAB team had put to him during interrogation were recorded, and that media should play that recording.
Deputy Chairman Senate said the NAB team had asked him questions about the benami transactions.
He said he had written to Senate chairman about NAB a year-and-a-half back to bring to his knowledge concerns over the Bureau’s activities.
Mandviwala said he had received around 100 applications against the Bureau so far.
He further said that a federal secretary telephoned him and conveyed to him his inability to work with the NAB officials.
Deputy Chairman Senate claimed he had names of all those who had died in NAB’s custody such as Aslam Masood, Ijaz Memon, Brigadier (r) Asad Munir, Nasir Sheikh, Qaiser Abbas, Abdul Qavi Khan and Khurram Humayun.
Claiming he was not doing politics, Mandviwala said people’s complaints against the anti-corruption watchdog were a serious issue, and needed to be investigated.
He exhorted the parliamentarians to hold the Bureau accountable for its ‘misdeeds’, adding if the parliamentarians did not take the initiative they should consider themselves useless.
He urged the parliamentarians to state this emphatically that character assassination of people by NAB on media would not be tolerated at any cost.
He further said he had remained in the government as well as in the opposition during the last 12 years, but none called him corrupt. “Now suddenly, a department hurls allegations of corruption against him,” Deputy Chairman Senate deplored.
