The government has issued an advisory alerting the institutions using third-party media services to the increasing cyber security threats, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
“The government institutions rely on private fiber optics for internet services. The fiber optic connectivity may cause security issues,” it said.
“There is a risk of data theft from optical fiber through a specific method. The government institutions should use dark fiber to avoid data leakage,” it added.
“The dark fiber can be obtained on lease. The possibility of data theft from the dark fiber is highly low,” it stated.
The advisory recommended that government institutions use dark fiber for the transmission of important government information on the internet.
It also recommended that the institutions using third media party services adopt different systems of authentication.
The government institutions were also advised to adopt the application-level security approach.
