The Lahore High Court Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction with the responses provided by the home secretary, the secretary of social welfare, and the ministry of law in a critical hearing on the recovery of a minor, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The LHC Justice Ali Zia Bajwa heard the petition of Rehana Bibi.

She was present along with officers from the Secretary Social Welfare, Child Protection Bureau, Home Department, and other relevant departments in the court.

The court highlighted significant lapses in the current child protection framework.

Acting advocate general Shahid Nawab Cheema represented the Punjab government, while deputy prosecutor general Hafiz Asghar Ali and other law officers were also present.

Despite their presence, the court noted the lack of substantial progress and clear answers regarding the protection of children and the functioning of juvenile courts.

Justice Bajwa expressed particular concern about gangs operating in Gujarat, questioning why they had not been apprehended despite their involvement in crimes against children.

The court ordered immediate action against these criminal groups to safeguard children's rights and well-being.

The court also criticized the lack of effective committees for child protection, describing it as a great cruelty to children.

Justice Bajwa emphasized the urgency of addressing crimes against children and the need for a structured approach to protect the vulnerable.

The court also expressed its dissatisfaction with the representative of the Law and Justice Ministry, who could not provide satisfactory answers regarding the establishment and functioning of juvenile courts.

Justice Bajwa demanded that these courts, which are crucial for handling cases involving minors, should be operational and effective.

In light of these concerns, the court has ordered the home secretary of Punjab to appear with a comprehensive response at the next hearing. Additionally, the court instructed the advocate general or a senior law officer to assist in the proceedings.

The court adjourned the hearing until July 10.
