South Africa achieved the target of 78 runs set by Sri Lanka in 16.2 overs after losing only four wickets in the fourth T20I match of the World Cup 2024 played at New York's Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Proteas chased the target of 78 in the 17th over. Quinton de Kock was the top-scorer for South Africa, making 20 off 27. Heinrich Klassen remained unbeaten on 19*.
Earlier, South Africa’s bowlers rattled Sri Lankan’s batting line as they could post only 77 runs for all out in 19.1 overs.
Anrich Nortje took four wickets for seven runs in four overs.
Sri Lanka finished their batting innings on 77 – their lowest total in all T20 internationals.
After choosing to bat first, the Sri Lankans suffered a top and middle-order collapse as eight of their players were dismissed for single-digit scores, including captain Hasaranga who was out for a duck.
Kusal scored 19, Kamindu made 11 and Mathews scored 16, as Sri Lanka finished 77 all out.
For South Africa, it was a near-perfect bowling performance, as Nortje picked 4-7, while Rabada and Maharaj got two wickets each and Baartman also picked one on his T20 World Cup debut.
