PFA destroys 14,500 litres of adulterated milk

 The Punjab Food Authority destroyed 14,500 litres of adulterated milk during a crackdown in different areas on Tuesday.

According to PFA Director General Irfan Memon, the authority examined a total of 28,200 litres of milk being transported in tankers or kept in chillers. The officials disposed of milk, which was found with very low level of LR and Fats.

The DG informed that chemicals and contaminated water were added to the milk to increase its quantity. The tankers and chillers were also found stinky and poorly cleaned.

The PFA DG said that constant monitoring of milk shops, suppliers and milk transportation vehicles is being carried out through out Punjab. He warned that contamination of basic food like milk will never be allowed and all out measures will be adopted to ensure supply of quality milk to the public, he added.

SFA ON PROWL IN SINDH

Meanwhile, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) carried out a vigorous crackdown on sale of contaminated and adulterated milk. The SFA carried out raids in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Larkana. The authority carried out inspection at more than 50 places and sealed four of them on different charges. The SFA informed that during inspection, huge quantity of salt, formalin, urea and other chemicals was found in milk. The authority slapped fine totalled to Rs388,000 and destroyed thousands of litre of adulterated milk.
