Several animals lose their lives as Lump Skin Disease (LSD) is spreading fast in different parts of Nawab Shah division in Sindh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
And to make matters further worse, the vaccine prescribed for the treatment of the disease has gone missing in markets and is available only in black at the prices fluctuating between Rs70, 000 to Rs80, 000.
Dr. Tariq Noorani, a vet, has said that the animals infected with the disease develop swellings on different parts of their skin. “So much so that the meat as well as milk of these animals is no longer fit for human consumption,” he elaborated.
He has further said the major reason for the spread of this disease in animals is that the animals brought from Africa and other countries were not made to quarantine on arrival in Pakistan.
Dr. Noorani has said that although he and a team of other vets are trying hard to stop the disease from spreading further, still efforts are required on a war footing to save other animals from its hazardous effects.
