A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday, seeking the removal of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani from the post, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Making the federal government, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Sanjrani and others respondents in the petition, Mashkoor Hussain, a citizen, said that the Senate chairman had contested an election for the Balochistan Assembly seat on February 8 and won it, and the ECP later notified his victory.
“But the fact is that the defendant cannot hold two positions at the same time. He cannot serve as the Senate chairman simultaneously,” the petitioner said, adding, “Therefore, it is requested that the ECP declares Sanjrani’s Senate seat vacant. The LHC is also requested to stop Sanjrani from working as chairman of the upper House.”
