Avicenna Medical College withdraws Pink List and Detention Policy after death of girl student

Avicenna Medical College (AMDC) Lahore Friday withdrew its unfair Pink List and illegal Student Detention Policy following the protests of the students on the death of a girl in the institute.


According to the 24News HD TV channel, AMC students held strong protests against the death of a female colleague due to unfair policies of the college administration and demanded scraping it at once.


 



 


As per the report, a girl died a few days ago as the principal did not give her leave due to severe illness and used harsh words when she went to take leave at his office.


In the protests, the students also complained about unnecessary fines, detentions and punishments under the Pink list in the college.



The channel said Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique took notice of the medical students' protests in the AMC and formed a fact-finding committee led by Prof Dr Allah Rakha of Forensic Medicine.Following the situation especially the protests of students, the Chairman of the Avicenna Medical & Dental College Abdul Waheed Sheikh notified changes in the policies.


In the notification, it is stated that Prof Dr Masood Nazim Tabassum shall not be involved in teaching the subject of Community Medicine and Discipline Committee and the policies related to the Pink list as well as all detentions are withdrawn.


The notification said the policies related to fine, leave and attendance shall be in line with the UHS Policies.


The notification said the Chairman feels that a committee of all CRs and BRs shall be formed who shall take up the issues of the students to be addressed and the College policy on referral to Prof Exams shall be reviewed and all polices for admission and referral to annual Prof Exams shall be as per UHS.


In the notification, it is also assured to the students from the Chairman that no action shall be taken in any form against any studnet for the protest.
