Fawad Chaudhry arrested while having breakfast in Islamabad park

Former federal information minister during the PTI government Fawad Chaudhry was arrested from Islamabad by the police on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Confirming her husband’s arrest, Fawad Chaudhry’s wife said the police party came and took Fawad to an unknown place.

Fawad’s brother Faraz Chaudhry also confirmed the arrest by the police, saying he did not know where they took him.

Fawad Ch was having breakfast with his family in a park at F7-3 when the law officials whisked him away.

The Abpara SHO came to the park with a heavy police force and arrested him.

The former federal minister was detained in a case registered against him in the Abpara police station on August 20.

Fawad was accused of taking out a PTI rally and blocking roads.

Petition seeking Fawad's release filed

Meanwhile, Fawad’s brother Faisal Ch advocate submitted a petition to a local court is Islamabad requesting the magistrate to issue an order for the release of Fawad Ch from illegal confinement.

Faisal said that the former information minister was not wanted in any case but still the police illegally took him away.

He requested the court to recover Fawad Ch and issue an order for his release.

On his petition, Magistrate Ahmad Shahzad Gondal sought a report from the police.

It bears mentioning here that the Islamabad police had also arrested Fawad Ch in January. At that time, he was the senior central vice president of the PTI.  

However, Fawad quit the PTI soon after a countrywide crackdown on the party which began after the May 9 violent incidents triggered by the arrest of its chairman Imran Khan inside the Islamabad High Court.

The former information minister later announced to join the newly formed Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) in June.

Fawad’s arrest came a day after the arrest of PTI leader and former speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser from his residence in Islamabad.
