Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday did not accept the resignation tendered by his special assistant Lt-Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa and asked him to continue serving as SAPM, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
CPEC Authority Chairman Lt-Gen Bajwa – who is also a SAPM (special assistant to the prime minister) on information – submitted his resignation a day after making an announcement in this regard.
However, the prime minister said he was satisfied with the proof and explanation given by him; therefore, he should not tender resignation as SAPM.
On Thursday, Lt-Gen (retd) Bajwa had stated that he would resign SAPM amid allegations that his family businesses flourished in his tenure as a Pakistan Army corps commander. He, however, said he would continue working as the CPEC Authority chairman.
The SAPM rejected a news report detailing businesses and assets owned by him and his family members. He issued a detailed press release and then took to the Twitter to clarify his position and said, “I have and will always serve Pakistan with pride and dignity.”
“I strongly rebut the baseless allegation levelled against me and my family,” Bajwa said and added that “another attempt to damage our reputation belied/exposed”.
