Different parts of country again lashed by heavy monsoon showers

Different parts of the country, including Lahore, received heavy showers during the last 24 hours due to a monsoon system that is currently present in northern India, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.


Power supply to several localities of Lahore was suspended after 177 feeders tripped following light to heavy rain, accompanied by winds blowing at the speed of 40 kilometers per hour, lashed different areas of the provincial capital early in the morning.  


Areas such as Lakshmi Chowk, Davis Road, Islampura, Shimla Pahari, Canal Road and The Mall were completely drenched, while the minimum temperature dropped to 27 degrees Celsius.  


The humidity level in the air was recorded at 90 per cent


Moderate to heavy rains were also reported from Karachi, Tharparkar, Islamkot, Mithi, Diplo, Umarkot, Daharki, Tangwani, Kandhkot, Shikarpur, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Faisalabad, Murree, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Mansehra, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kohat, Bannu, Waziristan and Dera Ismael Khan.


In Tharparkar, 70 millimeters of rain, recorded during the last 24 hours, left villages under knee-deep water, while rain-water mixed with sewage inundated low-lying localities in other parts of Sindh


The weather department, on the other hand, forecast more rain for these areas and Sindh during the next 24 hours; however, saying that the present spell affecting the upper parts of the country would be over today.


It said that rains would lash different cities of Sindh, especially those in the south-east of the province.


Changing its prediction, it said that the chances of rain in Karachi were not bright. “Mostly it will drizzle; however some of the suburban areas may receive rain,” Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said, adding that the weather would remain hot in the city in September.   


Similarly, the department predicted downpours for parts of Balochistan such as Musakhel, Sibbi and Naseerabad and mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that could lead drains and streams to burst their banks.  


Likewise, it said Islamabad and different cities of central Punjab namely Lahore, Sialkot, and Multan were likely to receive showers during the aforementioned period.
