The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday reserved its verdict in the case of stripping former prime minister and ex-PTI Chairman Imran Khan off his party chairmanship, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A five-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard the case.

PTI ex-chairman’s lawyer Advocate Shoaib Shaheen and Khalid Mehmood Advocate, the petitioner in the case, appeared before the bench.

During the hearing, Advocate Shaheen said that the PTI had submitted to the ECP record of the intra-party elections. “Now this chapter should be closed,” he said, adding, “From the legal point of view, there is no case right now since the PTI has got its new chairman.”

Addressing the CEC, he went on to say that if the bench wanted to go ahead with the hearing of the case, then it should wait for Akbar S. Babar to file the petition.

The CEC remarked, “Do you want the petitioner in the case to now also challenge the party chairmanship of Barrister Gohar Khan?”

The petitioner, on the occasion, prayed to the bench to write down in its verdict that since Imran was a convict, he could not hold any position in the party.

The chief election commissioner, however, replied that the bench could not say anything in this regard since the PTI chairman had not contested the intra-party elections.
