The Mardan District Administration, at last, opened the sole slaughterhouse of the city after 26-year-long closure.
Land for the slaughterhouse was acquired on Sangar Baba Road way back in 1993.
New building for the slaughterhouse has been completed at a cost of Rs4 million over five kanals of land.
Mardan Deputy Commissioner Abid Wazir inaugurated the slaughterhouse, saying that 80 cattle could be slaughtered and handled at the facility at a time. All sorts of facilities have been provided for butchers at the slaughterhouse, which was a longstanding demand of the citizens.
Now hygienic and standardized meat will be available to the city residents.
The DC revealed that a project is being considered to set up a meat market and a big slaughterhouse on Chamtar Road. He warned that from now on, no one will be allowed to slaughter animals in residential areas or even outside the slaughterhouse.
