Rawalpindi district administration has refused to allow the Awami Muslim League (AML) to hold a political gathering in front of Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi on Feb 6, reported 24NewsHDF TV channel Sunday.

The sources said that the AML chief and senior politician Shaikh Rasheed applied to the administration for permission on behalf of his nephew Shaikh Rashid Shafique who is contesting upcoming elections from the heart of the city.

However, the DC Rawalpindi in a letter has declined the request  citing security concerns and the prevailing law and order situation. The authorities stated that such  activity cannot be allowed given the security spectrum and backdrop.

Interestingly, despite denying permission to the AML, the administration has allowed the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) to hold an election gathering in Raja Bazar, Rawalpindi, which is located some 300 yards from Lal Haveli, on the same date, Feb 6.
