The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has made a significant ruling, reinstating the 10-year disqualification period for convicts of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
This decision was made by a division bench of the IHC, comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz.
The court was hearing an appeal by NAB against a previous decision that had reduced the disqualification period of a NAB convict from 10 years to 5 years. The convict in question is Faiq Ali Jamali, whose sentence has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
During the court proceedings, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani sought clarification from NAB Prosecutor on the specifics of Article 62 (1)(h) concerning disqualification.
Senior Special Prosecutor of NAB, Mohammad Rafi, presented his arguments before the IHC. He pointed out that according to NAB law, the disqualification period should remain at 10 years.
Taking these arguments into consideration, the division bench decided to suspend the decision of the single bench that had reduced the disqualification period.
As a result, the original 10-year disqualification period for NAB convicts was restored.
