Embezzlement to the tune of Rs5.20 billion has been detected in the accounts of Peshawar University during the financial year 2019-20, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
An audit team of Auditor General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has laid bare 52 financial irregularities such as unexplained investments, absence of the record of GP funds and others.
The report states that unexplained investments and the non-provision of documents pertaining to unexplained income of the university have caused losses of Rs1.42 billion and Rs1.17 billion to the varsity, respectively.
Similarly, the report points out losses to the tune of Rs570.18 million due to unexplained expenditures under the head of salaries and pensions.
Likewise, it has been revealed that inaccurate record of GP funds and the non-transfer of funds to monthly pension bank have caused losses of over Rs320.85 million and Rs320.50 million, respectively.

According to the audit report, over Rs170.10 million were released to the Peshawar University’s retired employees under the head of allowances, and that, too, without permission.
The report adds that over Rs160. 84 million were released under the head of bills without documents.
It points out that the loss of over Rs80.98 million was caused to the university due to unjust distribution of work among the teachers.
Similarly, the report discloses the loss of Rs70.30 million due to the non-implementation of the programme titled, ‘Campus Management Solution’.
Likewise, the varsity was caused the loss of over Rs20.61 million due to the release of PHD allowances without approval.
The report states that the university suffered a loss of Rs20. 53 million on account of not receiving the rent from canteen and tandoor owners while overpayment made to the teachers caused the loss of Rs10. 38 million to the institution.
The audit report identifies the loss of over Rs7.3 million due to overpayment made to the project staff.
Similarly, objections have also been raised over overpayment made for the CCTV cameras, and not receiving arrears from the shopkeepers.
