World Environment Day is being marked all over the world including Pakistan wherein civilian and military leadership stressed to protect the environment from further polluting by adopting renewable energy resources, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PM Shehbaz Shairf’s message
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has maintained that it was critical that developing countries were provided with climate financing to the environmental hazards.
In a tweet uploaded on Sunday, Shehbaz Sharif said “On World Environment Day today, the theme of #OnlyOneEarth is a clarion call for a united global action to address multifaceted challenge of climate change.”
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari message
Foreign Minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for vigorous joint action at the international scale for meaningful efforts regarding safe and pollution-free environment so as to ensure ‘protected planet Earth.’
He was of the view that joint efforts for this noble cause are now unavoidable and it can’t afford any further negligence.
According to a statement issued by Media Cell Bilawal House, the PPP chairman in his message asserted that ‘World Environment Day’ is a reminder to every community and each of us human beings that still we have time and opportunity to check the environmental catastrophe that is nearing fast.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the earth-friendly environment can be assured through urban planning, serious implementation of policies for the control of variety of pollution, promotion of afforestation and protection of natural environment.
He said that Pakistan, as a responsible country, is taking steps to tackle climate change. The Pakistan government has been raising awareness about the environmental issues and challenges at the grassroot level as well as pursuing policies regarding economic activities, which are of pivotal importance on environmental protection.
He was of the view that the environmental challenges are huge and need plenty of resources to meet them.
The PPP Chairman while drawing attention of Pakistani nation urged upon them to play their active role for grooming the environment and to take a pledge to leave no stone unturned in this cause.
We as a nation have to keep our environment pollution free and spare no effort to prevent environmental destruction to our land, mountains, rivers and everything.
Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman
Sherry Rehman said, “The Indus pours out 10000 tonnes of macro plastics annually into the sea. Plastic pollution will by 2050 result in more plastics in the water than fish. Stop polluting our rivers, oceans. We are all connected to nature. If we ruin nature, we risk human survival.”
Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi on Saturday urged the industrial community to come together and embrace best practices and principles for the protection and preservation of the shared asset; The Environment.
The Naval Chief, in his message on World Environment Day 2022, said the Pakistan Navy celebrated World Environment Day to underscore the significance of environment and undertook numerous protection measures, particularly focusing on the marine environment, said a Pakistan Navy media release.
The CNS said, ‘World Environment Day’ observed on 5th of June each year, calls for protecting our natural surroundings. The Day celebrated under the ambit of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) marks an occasion to raise awareness on the challenges facing our environment such as; pollution, illegal wildlife trade, sustainable consumption, sea level increase and food security”.
He added that it aimed to reinforce environmental measures for improving quality of life, especially for our future generations, in accordance with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Punjab Governor
Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman said that environmental pollution and global warming are challenges for the whole world including Pakistan and joint efforts are needed to tackle this challenge and for this focus must be on the renewable energy.
Sindh government plants mangroves
Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab along with Karachi civil society and in separate event some university students planted mangroves on at Karachi Port Trust on World Environment Day.
