A college lecturer was killed near Muslim Town in Lahore on Friday when a kite string slit his throat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
35-year-old Aftab Ahmad, who was a chemistry lecturer at Dyal Singh College, was going on a motorcycle on Wahdat Road when his throat came into contact with a kite string due to which he was killed on the spot.
Meanwhile, CCPO Lahore Ghulam Muhammad Dogar has suspended SHO Ichhra police station Azhar Ishaq for failing to take appropriate measures to stop kite flying in the areas of his jurisdiction.
DIG Operations Sajid Kiani, on the other hand, has issued an explanation letter to DSP Ichhra Circle.
He has also directed the DSP to take measures so that such incidents do not recur. “Take indiscriminate action against those who play with people’s lives,” he said and added all SHOs who failed to stop kite flying in their areas would now face the music.
Kiani further said that a large number of kites, metallic strings and other material were confiscated in a raid conducted Thursday night.
Kite flying is continuing despite the ban across the province, especially on Fridays and Sundays. Citizens have urged the concerned authorities to strictly implement the ban on kite flying so road accidents and loss of human lives can be avoided.
