The Balochistan government has postponed the Sibi Mela scheduled to be started on March 6, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday. .
According to a notification, the provincial government put off the festival due to flooding.
Every year, the mela brings livestock shows and agricultural exhibitions, circuses, music and other local festivities to Sibi.
Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Gwadar, Makran and northern and central parts of Balochistan, suspending normal life and traffic.
Last week, 30-hour-long rains triggered flash floods, submerging most of the areas. Paramilitary forces were called in by the local administration to make it to the flood-affected areas and launched rescue and relief operations.
The Gwadar district administration declared a state of emergency in the rain-hit areas. Floodwater entered houses, forcing families to flee to safer places. Traffic between Karachi and Gwadar went out of gear.
The sewerage system choked. The supply system was also badly affected and people were facing a shortage of drinking water. Gwadar-Peshkan road and several dykes in Surbandan, Jewany, Palery and other areas have been washed away.
Quetta and many other towns also received rain and snowfall that flooded the human settlements and roads. The rain affected the power and gas supplies in Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung and Pishin areas.
