China's annual legislative gathering, known as the "two sessions," kicked off in Beijing today with the release of the major tasks for 2024 by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. The guidelines underscore the significance of the year, marking the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and serving as a crucial period for advancing the objectives outlined in the Plan.

Central to the agenda is the promotion of high-quality development through the implementation of the new development philosophy and deepening reform and opening up efforts. China aims to achieve greater self-reliance in science and technology, strengthen macro regulation, and expand domestic demand while simultaneously pursuing supply-side structural reform.


Prime Minister also outlined specific targets for 2024, including overarching goal of ensuring both high-quality development and greater security, key economic targets for 2024 have been projected. These include a GDP growth rate of around 5 percent, over 12 million new urban jobs, and a surveyed urban unemployment rate of around 5.5 percent. Additionally, targets for CPI increase, personal income growth, grain output, energy consumption, and environmental improvements have been outlined.


The government is also committed to improving the people’s well-being, stabilizing employment, and increasing incomes. Efforts will be intensified in ecological conservation, promoting green and low-carbon development, and advancing integrated development between urban and rural areas.


Notably, China reaffirms its dedication to poverty alleviation, allocating 700 billion yuan in the central government budget for investment. Moreover, the scope of areas and uses for funds from the sale of local government special-purpose bonds will be expanded to further support development initiatives.
