Punjab Minister for Law and Social Welfare Raja Basharat has said that farmers will be taken into confidence on important decisions and their recommendations will be included in the Punjab Agriculture Policy.
He expressed these views while talking to representatives of the Kisan Board Pakistan at the DC Office in Lahore on Thursday. Agriculture Secretary Waqas Mahmood Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner of Lahore Mudassar Riaz were also present on the occasion.
The Kisan Board postponed a protest on the assurance that farmers’ demands would be accepted.
Raja Basharat said that Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar is a farmer himself and he can understand problems of farmers better than anyone else. “Our government is taking concrete steps to address the real problems of farmers,” he said. Farmers should trust the government and not create problems for people through protests. He assured that all problems of the farmers would be solved on a priority basis.
The president of the Kisan Board and other representatives said, “We are grateful to the chief minister of Punjab and the law minister for paying attention to our problems.”
Meanwhile, Raja Basharat took notice of the death of farmer leader Malik Ashfaq Langarial and directed the authorities to form a medical board to ascertain the cause of his death. He stressed that the Medical Board should submit a detailed report immediately. Describing the demise of Malik Ashfaq Langarial as a tragic event, he said, “We share the grief of the family of the deceased. May Allah Almighty grant him a place in the Heaven.”
