The Opposition leaders and members of the general public on Friday tore apart the government’s economic policies while labelling the latest hike in prices of petroleum products as “cruel” and “anti-poor”, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The government Thursday night issued a notification confirming the heavy increase in the prices of petroleum products.
Shehbaz dubs inflation historic
Talking to the newsmen outside an accountability court in Lahore, PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif declared that such a level of inflation had never been witnessed in Pakistan’s history. “The new petrol prices are cruel and totally against the poor,” he added.
Inflation tsunami unbearable: Hamza
Taking his turn, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz maintained that the Opposition should frame a legal strategy to get rid of this government as the “inflation tsunami” had become unbearable.
“Every new day brings more miseries for the public. Imran Khan has taken many a notice but the people will take notice,” he said and added it was responsibility of all the political parties to find a solution to oust this government.
He further said “If we could not do anything then the people will question Opposition’s actions during tough times.”
Imran himself seeking ‘relief’ from people: Sherry
PPP Vice-President Sherry Rahman has expressed serious concern over another hefty rise in the prices of petroleum products.
Rejecting the increase, Sherry said the PTI government had increased the petrol prices by 53 rupees in three years. “The prime minister’s relief to people is coming through enhancing petrol rates,” she wondered.

She said the prime minister in his address to the nation was announcing a relief package rather he was seeking “relief” from the public.
“The inflation has already jumped to 14.31 percent and the latest surge in petroleum prices will certainly fuel prices of other commodities,” she opined.
Protest programme soon, says Marri
PPP leader Shazia Marri said the PTI government would have to face music if it did not withdraw the raise in petroleum prices. She asked the people to get ready as they PPP will soon announce a protest programme.
Nayyar Bukhari said raise in petrol prices was not made by a sane person. “The people are searching for that Imran Khan who had said that he would prefer committing suicide to going to IMF for loans,” he added.
The general public was also up in arms over the dearer petrol prices. They vent their anger on Twitter making the issue a top trend.
