The federal government has asked Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to lift a ban it imposed earlier on broadcasting speeches and press conferences of PTI chairman Imran Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to sources, the government has issued directions to Pemra under section 5.
Earlier in the day, Pemra has issued a notification barring all the broadcasters from broadcasting speeches and press conferences of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Pemra said that Imran Khan’s statements against institutions were creating hatred among the masses and airing of such content is prejudicial to maintenance of law and order or is likely to disturb public peace and tranquility or endangers national security.
Pemra said in case of any violation observed, the licence may be suspended without any show cause notice in the public interest.
