The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) continued a nationwide crackdown on the elements involved in the hawala hundi business, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the spokesperson of FIA, during the current year, about 452 raids were conducted against elements involved in the illegal exchange of money and currency.
As many as 453 cases were registered and 652 accused were arrested while investigations into 56 inquiries were also completed.
During this year, 308 accused were arrested in KP zone, 73 in Lahore zone, 24 in Gujranwala zone, 55 in Faisalabad zone and 50 in Multan zone.
Islamabad zone arrested 26 suspects, Karachi zone 69, Hyderabad zone 27 and Balochistan zone 20. The arrested accused were involved in currency exchange without license.
Over Rs4.19 billion domestic and foreign currency was recovered during raids this year.
In the recovered currency more than 746,184 US dollars, including other foreign currency worth more than Rs350 million.
More than Rs3.62 billion Pakistani was also included in the recovered currency.
Over 28 plazas, markets and shops were also sealed during the nationwide raids
The assistance of law enforcement agencies was also obtained for the arrest of the accused.
