A few weeks ago, people got to learn that WhatsApp is finally working on allowing iOS users to switch their WhatsApp Chat history to Android, via the Samsung Galaxy Flip line of devices, and soon for other Samsung devices. And it looks like that good day is finally here.
WhatsApp, in a blog post, has announced that it has expanded this chat history transfer feature to more Samsung smartphones. The way it enables this is via Samsung’s SmartSwitch app that asks you to physically connect a Samsung phone with an iPhone via a Lightning to USB-C cable.
In case you’ve got your hands on a Samsung device and wish to transfer your chats, there are a few things you need to keep in check. First, make sure you’ve got the latest version of the Samsung SmartSwitch app -- 3.7.22.1 or higher. Also, make sure you’re running on Android 10 and you have a factory-reset device for this to work effectively.
You will also need iOS WhatsApp version 2.21.160.17 or higher on the iPhone and version 2.21.16.20 or higher on Android (Samsung) device.
Another caveat is that the number should be the same, you cannot switch chats to a different number. If you’ve got all this prepped, let’s start the switch.
First, connect both the devices using the Lightning-USB-C Cable and wait for the notification to appear.
Next, follow the steps shown in the Samsung SmartSwitch app.
After this, it’ll ask you to scan the QR code that appears on the Samsung device using the iPhone.
Once successfully done, it’ll ask you to ‘Start’ the process. Click ‘Start’ and let the process go on.
Now, on the Samsung device, open WhatsApp and log in using your phone number, the same one that was on the iPhone.
Soon, WhatsApp will ask you to ‘Import’. Click on the option and wait for the process to complete.
After the phone activation completes, it’ll show you your previous chats. That's pretty much it, really.
