Following the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, the 16th edition of the South-Asian cricket tournament, Pakistan’s showbiz celebrities are expressing their thoughts regarding Pakistan and India’s match as well as their excitement for the Pakistani cricket team.

Celebrated Pakistani actress Urwa Hocane took to the microblogging website ‘X’ which was formally known as Twitter and shared her opinion on India’s refusal to tour, stripping Pakistan of its hosting rights.

“The Asia Cup 2023 has got me thinking how arrogant and petty is Indian politics to not let their team play a single match properly just so they don’t play on host Pakistan grounds. They’d rather deal with rain, make their team suffer, and compromise the international sports spirit! Sigh”, Urwa stated.

To win the coveted Asia Cup, six teams from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will face off against one another.

Pakistan is serving as the event's host this year.

However, as a result of the Indian cricket team's refusal to travel to Pakistan only four of the 13 total matches will be played in Pakistan and the remaining eight being played on Sri Lankan grounds.

Urwa's statement regarding the matter after analyzing the scenario was accurate, as according to Al Jazeera’s report cited by Karachi-based cricket analyst and sportswriter Saad Shafqat ‘Indian hostility’ was a factor in the decision to deny Pakistan the ability to host the full tournament on its own grounds.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited “political tensions” between India and Pakistan as the reason behind the Indian national cricket team’s inability to play on Pakistani soil.

Urwa also expressed her gratitude towards Pakistan’s women's cricket team for winning the match against South Africa.

“What a pride #PakistanWomenCricketTeam.”

“The news made my day! The kind of win I wish to see for #Pakistan every day in every field regardless of gender, we need our full force! With all that potential our only option is to work harder & win at everything for the world to see.”
