Sindh governor raises unavailability of gas with SSGC MD; State minister vows to mitigate miseries

Gas crisis has hit the port city of Karachi hard, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

Domestic and commercial consumers have been making a litany of complaints about the unavailability of gas but to no avail.

Governor Kamran Tessuri contacted the Sui Southern Gas Company managing director and raise the issue of gas with the top official.

Traders and businesspeople expressed deep concerns, saying that halt to gas supply in the commercial hub of the country has been adding to economic woes.

Public problems 

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan has contacted the Sui Southern Gas Company managing director to get the ongoing gas crisis overcome.

According to the governor, people coming to Iftar at the Governor's House have been making a litany of complaints about the problem caused by the unavailability of the utility 

People took more than 12,000 gas bills at the Governor's House, the governor said questioning why these bills are being  sent when there is no gas supply

He cited the people as saying: “Gas is not coming, bills are coming. The Sui Southern Gas Company should fix this problem at the earliest." 

Traders in trouble 

Also, business and trade bodies raised concerns, saying industrial production is affected due to the unavailability of gas.

SITE Association of Industries (SAI) Karachi President has made an appeal to the authorities concerned to take special stops to cope with the challenge.

He termed unfair the halt to the gas supply, stressing that it is regretful that the gas supply is halted even after a weather change.

Javed Balwani said Karachi's share in the total revenue of the government is 60%, but injustice is being done by halting the commodity supply to the Sindh capital.

Pledge to mitigate miseries

Addressing a press conference, Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik said due share is being given. 

The first thing is to take care of the poor, he said, adding that about 80 per cent of people in the country are poor and the prime minster laid stress on providing them with due relief 

More gas is being given to the domestic sector, he said adding that the government attaches importance to the industry too as the employment of the poor is related to the industry.

However, the minister said the matter is being taken with the SSGC to address the matter as soon as possible.
