In a significant move to enhance the integrity of its labor market, Kuwait has introduced an automated system to verify the academic qualifications of expatriates, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals, and bidoon workers applying for work permits.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the initiative, spearheaded by the country’s Public Authority for Manpower, seeks to combat the rising trend of fraudulent academic certificates and ensure only qualified individuals are granted professional employment.
As per a circular issued by Marzouq Al Otaibi, Acting Director General of the Authority, the new verification process will scrutinize three critical elements: the academic degree, the applicant’s field of specialization, and the accreditation status of the qualification. These criteria will be assessed in accordance with the standards set by the Ministry of Higher Education in Kuwait.
Officials emphasized that the automated system will ensure that submitted academic credentials match the requirements of the relevant professions before work permits are approved. The verification procedure will be conducted through the Ashal portal and Sahel Business application, providing a streamlined and transparent approval process for employers and applicants alike.
The new measure is part of Kuwait’s broader campaign to regulate and protect its labor market.
It follows recent revelations of fake academic documents being submitted by foreign workers attempting to secure employment in the country. Authorities hope this digital verification will significantly reduce fraud and improve overall workforce quality.
This development also comes on the heels of another digital advancement: the launch of a new eVisa platform for expatriates, particularly those residing in the UAE and other GCC countries.
The updated portal, kuwaitvisa.moi.gov.kw, enables applicants to complete their visa procedures online with greater ease, fewer delays, and enhanced efficiency.
Together, these digital reforms signal Kuwait’s commitment to modernizing its immigration and labor systems while safeguarding the country from document fraud and unauthorized employment.
