Punjab Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has strongly refuted allegations of water theft, calling such claims misleading and factually incorrect.

Addressing recent tensions surrounding water distribution, she emphasised the importance of using constitutional platforms for resolving inter-provincial disputes.

“There is no water being stolen from anyone, nor is it even possible,” Marriyum Aurangzeb stated while speaking to the media. “No political party should turn the issue of canal water into a political game.”

She highlighted that water distribution is a provincial subject, and any grievances related to it should be taken up through the Council of Common Interests (CCI) — the constitutional body responsible for resolving such matters between provinces.

Aurangzeb urged political leaders to act responsibly and refrain from issuing provocative or divisive statements. “There is a clear difference between creating political space and inciting unrest,” she said. Commenting on national progress, the senior minister credited the Chief of Army Staff and the Prime Minister for working collectively to stabilise the economy. “Despite staying within the IMF programme, the Prime Minister has managed to offer significant relief to the public. Inflation is decreasing, and the economy is steadily improving,” she noted.

She also criticised political opponents, pointing out their internal conflicts. “The party that once claimed the country would break into pieces is now broken itself. Those who accused others of being thieves are now calling each other thieves.”

Marriyum Aurangzeb’s remarks come amid ongoing political debates around water allocation and governance issues, particularly between Punjab and Sindh.
