Protest rallies were taken out in different cities of Sindh against six controversial canals originating from the Indus River, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
In this regard, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F has staged a protest at the Guddu Barrage on the Indus River.
Due to the protest, traffic movement in and out of three provinces has been suspended.
Addressing the protest rally, JUI leader Allama Rashid Mehmood said that we had also issued a fatwa against Kalabagh Dam and we were also in the field against Thal Canal.
He said it was decided in the All Parties Conference in Karachi that we would reject the canal.
The JUI leader said that the Cholistan Canal was built so that the land of Punjab would not become barren.
He said that 14 years have passed and no flood has come; due to climate change, there has been no rain either, and when there is no rain and no flood, how will Cholistan be filled?
The JUI leader said we stand with the Constitution, we stand with Pakistan, and we stand with the Pakistan Army.
The JUI leader demanded to withdraw the decision to build a canal on the river, threatening, If the decision is not withdrawn, we will stage a protest on all the borders of Punjab.
We will not allow anyone to enter Sindh from Punjab and Sindh from Punjab by sitting in on the border at Deramoor in Kashmore and at the Kumo Shaheed border in Ghotki.
Meanwhile, a large protest rally was held in Naseerabad against the extraction of controversial canals from the Indus River.
The rally was taken out from Noonari Mohalla to Arthur Bridge under the leadership of Sufi Junior Janan Chan.
A large number of men, women, and children were present in the rally.
Addressing the rally, participants said the lives of 70 million Sindhi people are dependent on the Indus River.
They said the public is being made restless and disappointed by the planning of controversial canals on the Indus River.
Participants said the federal government is trying to turn the green lands of Sindh into barren.
This year too, wheat production has been severely damaged due to agricultural water shortage, participants said.
The extraction of new canals from the Indus River is harming Sindh, and the project should be immediately terminated, protesters demanded.
