Pakistan calls for strengthening UNMOGIP

FO spokesperson condemns cross-border firing from Afghanistan

Outgoing Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui Thursday addressing a weekly press briefing said United Nations Security Council (UNSC) discussed situation ins Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) on Pakistan’s request for the third time in one year.

She said the UNSC reaffirmed validity of its resolutions that the final disposition of Jammu and Kashmir will be made through a free, fair and impartial plebiscite under the auspicious of the United Nations.

“The UN Secretariat and United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) representatives briefed the council members on current situation of IOJ&K and confirmed the overall situation remains tense,” FO spokesperson said.

She said the human rights concerns were also expressed particularly with regard to India’s continued oppression as well as its attempts to change the demography of Occupied Valley.

They need to strengthen the UNMOGIP which is facing challenges India’s non-cooperation was also underscored. “We are grateful to all the members of the security council and especially China for their support in organizing the meeting of UNSC.

The fact that on three occasions in one year the J&K issue has been discussed in the Security Council completely negates the failed Indian assertion that it is an internal matter, FO Spokesperson said. 

On Youm-e-Istehsal, voice in support of Kashmiri people ran across the globe marking one year of the illegal action of Indian and continued brutalization and disenfranchisement of the Kashmiri people.

China in its statement underscored that Jammu and Kashmir is a dispute leftover from history between Pakistan and India and that is also an establishment fact by UN.

Turkey also reiterated the dispute of J&K should be resolved through dialogue within the framework of UN charter and relevant UNSC resolutions. 

The OIC in its statement urged once again from abstention of changes in the demographic composition of IOJ&K and reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of J&K. OIC Human Rights Commission in its statement strongly condemned yearlong unhuman blockade by India, FO Spokesperson said.

She said Pakistani leadership has also expressed its sincere condolences to government and people of Lebanon over loss of precious lives in Beirut blast and pray for early recovery of injured. A 14-year-old Pakistani kid has expired while his father and sister are also in critical situation. The Pakistani Embassy in Beirut has quickly responded and shifted another Pakistani family as their apartment was demolished due to blast.

Earlier FO Spokesperson said, on 5 August, in the afternoon, terrorists operating from Afghanistan resorted to mortar and heavy weapons fire on Pakistan posts in Binshahi Sector, Dir. In the evening the Afghan Border Police Posts also started engaging Pakistan Army posts. Resultantly, one FC soldier embraced shahadat (martyrdom), while two soldiers were critically injured.

It must be noted that the Afghan Army was requested to hold a Border Flag Meeting, today at Binshahi, Dir to discuss cross border fire issues.

Pakistan strongly condemned this unprovoked aggressive action by Afghan forces and the evident support provided to the terrorists. This is detrimental to the existing coordination and cooperation mechanism between the two countries. Pakistan reiterates its determination to firmly respond to orchestrated terrorist attacks from across the border.
