Just like in other parts of the country, Jhelum’s district administration too, fearing a backlash by PTI workers and supporters following the arrest of former prime minister and party Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana reference, has imposed section 144, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Issuing an order in this regard, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samiullah Farooq said that under the section, which would remain effective until August 12, gatherings of people and protest demonstrations would be banned and anyone found violating it would be taken to the task.
Immediately after the arrest of the PTI chairman yesterday, Islamabad administration swung into action, deployed additional contingents of police on city’s roads and even called Rangers and FC personnel to take their positions besides imposing section 144 in order to prevent protests by the party workers.
The section was imposed in other cities of the country as well.
