Tayyab reaches CNS International Squash Championship semis

Tayyab Aslam hammered 7th seed Malaysian Mohammad Syafiq Kamal 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the 14th CNS International Squash Championship-2020 played at Naval Complex, Squash courts in Karachi on Thursday.

Tayyab is the lone Pakistani left in the event as Asim Khan was beaten in the quarterfinals. Tayyab started the first game on a high note and won the game 11-7. He went onto take second game 11-7 and won third game 11-6 to register convincing victory on 26 minutes and set up semi-final date with Hong Kong’s Henry Leung.

In the other quarterfinals, top seed Malaysian Ivan Yuen beat Egyptian Moustafa El Sirty 3-1 in 48 minutes of high quality squash. Ivan won first game 11-6, took second game 11-9. He lost third game 6-11 and won 4th game 11-9.

Third seed Egyptian Mazen Gamal beat 5th seed Pakistani Asim Khan 3-0 in 42 minutes, winning 12-10, 11-9 and 11-6.

In the last encounter of the day, Hong Kong’s Henry Leung beat compatriot Tsz Kwan Lau 3-2 in 66 minutes of sheer class and entertainment. Leung won the first game 11-6. Lau hit back to even the match by winning second and third games 11-9 and 11-8.

However, Leung staged a remarkable comeback winning 4th game 11-5 and 5th game 11-5 to make it to the semi-finals.

First semi-final will be played between top seed Ivan Yuen (MAS) against third seed Mazen Gamal (EGY) at 2:00pm, while second semi-final will be played between Tayyab Aslam and Henry Leung (HKG) at 3:00pm.
