The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) will construct four more underground water storage tanks in Lahore after Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar gave approval for eight water storage tanks to be built in the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The water tanks will be built on Waris Road, Karim Park, Railway Station and Cooper Road.

The Housing Department convened a meeting of the Departmental Development Sub-Committee for the approval on February 11. WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz will present working papers for approval in the DDSC meeting.

The construction period of four water storage tanks is nine months as WASA has allocated sites for all four water storage tanks.

The construction of four new water storage tanks are the continuation of previously installed tanks project to tackle the situation of downpour water inundating the urban areas.

Lahore authorities last year launched its first underground water storage system to collect rainwater for reuse and reduce flooding in the city of over 11 million.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA), in collaboration with its subsidiary Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), had developed the rainwater storage in the city.
