JCP recommends names of nine lawyers for LHC additional judges

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), which met with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi in the chair on Thursday, recommended the names of nine lawyers for their appointment as additional judges in the Lahore High Court (LHC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Those whose names were recommended were Advocate General, Punjab Khalid Ishaq, Advocate Supreme Court (SC) Owais Khalid, Advocate Sardar Ali Akbar Dogar, Advocate SC Jawad Zafar, Advocate Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Waqar Haider Awan, Advocate SC Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and Advocate SC Malik Javed Iqbal Wains. 

The total number of seats for judges in the high court is 60.

However, presently 34 seats are filled while the remaining 26 are vacant. 

Last time it was on May 7, 2021 that the additional judges had been appointed to the LHC.
