Criticizing the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Hussain Alvi for not signing the bill to increase the number of union councils (UCs) of Islamabad Capital Territory, Rana Sanaullah said he is still a worker of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Talking to 24News exclusively on Friday, the federal minister for interior affairs Rana Sanaullah said the President had proved by returning the government bill, that there was no change in him. “Even after spending four and a half years in the President's House, there is no change in him.” He alleged that Dr Arif is a PTI worker who used to stop traffic on the roads of Karachi.

The interior minister said that the bill was passed by the National Assembly and the Senate after the cabinet decided to increase the number of UCs from 101 to 125. Now, the election will be held according to the new law, the home minister said, adding that we hope that the courts will fulfill their responsibility.

The minister said that a meeting of both houses will be called next week and after passing by the joint session, the bill will again be sent to the President. “Whether the President signs it or not, after 10 days it will become a law in routine,” he added.

Pertinent to note, Dr Arif Alvi has returned unsigned the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in terms of clause (1)(b) of Article 75 of the Constitution.
