A special team of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) led by Dr Faisal Sultan visited various hospitals in Karachi -- Indus, Jinnah Post Graduate Med Centre, Civil Hospital, Liaqat National Hospital and Agha Khan University Hospital -- as part of centre’s efforts to share experiences with each other and help the local administration in capacity building and capability enhancement.

On this occasion, Focal Person on Covid-19 Dr Faisal Sultan met the provincial leadership and discussed the national Covid-19 effort, actions taken thus far and the future course of action. Dr Faisal offered all possible assistance from the NCOC to help Sindh overcome future challenges.

The NCOC reviewed measures taken by the provisional authorities to ensure strict compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), overall status of healthcare equipment, EPI Curve Chart and update on “we care project” for healthcare workers.

The chief secretaries of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir updated the forum about the steps taken for compliance with SOPs and smart lockdowns in areas with maximum COVID 19 cases reported. The Punjab chief secretary informed the forum that a sufficient number of beds is available to deal with the challenge.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza updated the forum about ‘We Care’ campaign for the protection of frontline healthcare workers fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic across the country. Overall, 20,000  Front Line Health Workers (FLHWs) have been trained in two months through videos, PPE Guidelines and provisional courses as part of training for 100,000 healthcare workers.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister Ministry for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said the government had a two-pronged strategy focusing on disease control and upgrading the healthcare system with effective deployment.
