World Orthoptic Day raises awareness about diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders

World Orthoptic Day is celebrated every year on the first Monday of June to raise public awareness about the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders by Orthoptists.

Orthoptists, in collaboration with ophthalmologists, diagnose and treat conditions such as blurred vision, double vision, lazy eye, strabismus, visual perception issues, and problems with eye movement.

They prescribed glasses, specialized lenses, prisms, patches, and exercises to treat patients. Today, on the occasion of the World Orthoptics Day, the faculty, students, and orthoptists from the College of Ophthalmolgy and Allied Vision Sciences organized a cake cutting and symbolic walk ceremony along with the distribution of brochures and public health materials. Orthoptists from various hospitals in Lahore participated in the event.

Professor Ejaz Hussain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, King Edward Medical University, and Dean Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Professor Dr Syed Asghar Naqi, were special guests.

Professor Muhammad Moin, Principal of the College of Optometry, highlighted the importance of the field of orthoptics to the media and expressed confidence in the future advancement and collaboration in research in this unique profession. Professor Emeritus Dr Asad Aslam Khan advised orthoptic students, graduates, and practitioners to perform their work with honesty and dedication. Other participants, including Professor Dr Syed Raza Ali Shah, Professor Dr Muhammad Ali Ayaz Sadiq, Dr Nasir Chaudhry, Dr Javed Iqbal, Dr Shabbana Chaudhry, Dr Ashal Kaiser Pal, Dr Arif Hussain, Dr Imran Ahmed and Staff Officer Mr Hammad Hassan Farid commended the efforts of the organizers and praised the excellent work of the Orthoptics Department while appreciating the endeavors of Ayesha Sarfraz, Syeda Rushda Zaidi and Tayyaba Burhan.
