Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz resigns as LHC judge

Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Thursday.

According to sources, Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz submitted his resignation voluntarily, stepping down before completing his tenure.

Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz was appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court on November 26, 2016, and was due to retire on September 8, 2033, upon reaching the age of 62.

Originally from Islamabad, Justice Abdul Aziz was handling criminal cases in the Lahore High Court. He was ranked 19th in the seniority list of LHC judges at the time of his resignation.

It is worth mentioning that on February 28, 2025, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, held a meeting at the Lahore High Court to review the appointment of additional judges.

The commission approved four names for elevation as Additional Judges in the Lahore High Court: Sessions Judge Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Sessions Judge Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, Abhar Gul Khan, and Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh.

Sessions Judge Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan, currently posted as Sessions Judge Okara, secured 14 votes. He is third in the seniority list of Sessions Judges and hails from Rawalpindi.

Sessions Judge Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, from Vehari, received 12 votes and currently serves as Sessions Judge Gujarat. He ranks 41st in the seniority list.

Sessions Judge Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, a Lahore resident, received 10 votes. He is the 14th senior-most Sessions Judge and is currently serving as Judge Special Court Central One Lahore.

Abhar Gul Khan, currently serving as Registrar, Lahore High Court, received 11 votes. He belongs to Lahore and is ranked 108th in the seniority list of Sessions Judges.

With the addition of these four new judges, the total number of judges in the Lahore High Court has now reached 47.
