In a startling revelation, the current electricity rates have turned out to be the highest in the country’s entire history, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to the documents obtained by 24News TV channel, presently domestic consumers are paying between Rs23 and Rs31.57 per unit in their electricity bills.
If they consume 5 kilowatts of electricity or more, the charges will be Rs31.57 per unit.
The documents further tell that if commercial users consume a load of less than 5 kilowatt, they will be charged Rs28 per unit.
And if they consume more than 5 kilowatts of electricity during peak hours, this will cost them Rs32.74 per unit and during off-peak hours, they will be charged Rs24.98 per unit.

For general consumers, the electricity rates have been fixed at Rs27.49 per unit.
If any industrial unit consumes 25 kilowatts of electricity during the peak hours, it will be charged Rs25 per unit.
Similarly, during off-peak hours, the charges will be Rs21.93 per unit.
And in the case of 5 kilowatts of power consumption, the charges during the peak hours will be Rs25.18 and during the off-peak hours Rs25.65 per unit.
Likewise, if any industrial unit consumes electricity between 500 to 5,000 kilowatts, the rates during the peak hours will be Rs25.18 while during the off-peak hours Rs21.54 per unit.
Documents further disclose that taxes are also included in the total amount charged from the power consumers.
