The son of former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general Bashir Memon has approached a judicial magistrate for taking legal action against PM aide Shahbaz Gill for smearing his family.

The judicial magistrate forwarded Behzad Memon’s request to the sessions judge concerned for further proceedings. Behzad Memon submitted that the premier’s aide levelled fake allegations at his family and made a request for legal action against him on charges of doing their character assassination on the media.

A few days ago, Shahbaz Gill said in a press conference that the FIA ex-DG (Bashir Memon) ‘misused his authority to set up industries in tax-free tribal areas’.

He held the press conference in response to Bashir Memon’s allegations against Prime Minister Imran Khan, Adviser on Accountability Shahzad Akbar and Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem for pressuring him to initiate investigations against Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Shahzad Akbar has already sent a legal notice to Memon and denied any wrongdoing.

According to Shahbaz Gill, Bashir Memon was trying to ‘politicising his removal and escape tax-evading cases but the latter claimed he was not removed from the post. The former FIA head moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the government for withholding his pension and post-retirement benefits.
